Chapter Ten

Zane

The rest of the day goes by without much fanfare. A few people seem to pass by my office as if they are curious about who I am, though none of them come inside as I get set up in my new office. The space is sparse in design, but I know that I can make it my own soon enough.

I'm unsurprised by the knock on my door at the end of the workday. I'd closed it a little while earlier to avoid all the lingering stares, but now that the day is ending, I have no doubt who is there.

“Come in!”

Callum comes in, his eyes searching over me. “Good first day?” he asks as he shuts the door behind him and leans on it. The man shouldn't look as sexy as he does leaning there. From his perfect jawline and wide shoulders, to those thick legs, he's a wet dream in a suit.

“It was an interesting first day.” I speak casually as I shuffle things around aimlessly. There's not a chance I can focus with him waiting right there.

When I don't say anything further, he steals my breath with a single question. “I was wondering if you'd like to have dinner with me?”

I freeze, my gaze going from the papers to him. “Dinner? Is that all you're asking?”

The corner of his mouth ticks up. “Well, dinner would be at my place. I was hoping I might be able to convince you to spend a little more time with me. Maybe even sleep beside me tonight. Nothing sexual, I swear. I miss holding you.”

His vulnerable words break down the last of my defenses. Rising from the desk, I slip my phone in my suit jacket and grab my heavier winter coat off the back of my chair.

“Are you ready to go now?”

Seemingly shocked by my change in attitude he nods quickly and opens the door. He laces his fingers with mine as he leads us down the hall.

Outside were greeted with a private car. I shake my head and laugh at the ostentatiousness of it all. Once we're seated inside, he turns to face me.

“What's got you so amused?”

“All of this. This level of luxury is something I've watched others live with for years and now I'm experiencing it firsthand. It's just a little odd.”

He puts my hand between both of his. “There doesn't have to be anything odd about it. I want to spoil you. I want to give you things you’ve never had before.”

“What if I want a pony, Daddy?” I mean it more to tease him, but his answer shows just how serious he’s taking this.

“Then you just need to tell me what kind and color so we can go pick it out.”

“What if I want two ponies?”

He smiles at me gently, his expression never wavering. “Would they be two different color ponies, or would you want them to match?”

“You're really just going to fold for everything I want?”

Callum squeezes my hand, then leans forward so that we're closer.
